Empowering Leaders with Technical Insight

Technology moves fast, but the policy infrastructure under it has to be built to last. At EdTechRI, we represent the people who have spent their careers navigating the shift from dusty computer labs to fully integrated 1:1 digital environments. We aren’t just enthusiasts; we are the practitioners, directors, and strategists who keep Rhode Island’s schools connected and secure every single day.

We believe that the best legislation is rooted in the reality of the classroom. To that end, our members are offering their collective expertise to the General Assembly and local municipal leaders to help bridge the gap between high-level policy goals and the technical heavy lifting required to make them work.

What We Bring to the Table

  • Our members manage the complex intersection of cybersecurity and student data privacy to keep our data secure and our districts compliant with state laws.

  • We provide a grounded perspective on scaling infrastructure and managing hardware lifecycles so that local investments aren't obsolete in three years.

  • We are currently developing the ethical frameworks and practical guardrails needed to integrate Artificial Intelligence into the curriculum safely.

  • Our team identifies and addresses the specific barriers to digital equity to ensure that every student has reliable access to the tools they need.

  • We evaluate the pedagogical impact of new technologies to ensure that every dollar spent actually moves the needle on student achievement.

How We Can Help You

Good intentions don't always translate into functional policy when the technical details are overlooked. We’ve seen how well-meaning regulations can inadvertently cause unintended consequences. As an example, California’s well-intentioned operating system level age verification law has created impossible compliance hurdles for open-source platforms that do not have the resources to comply and could potentially face impossible fines. These kinds of technical oversights can stifle innovation or accidentally lock students out of essential tools. We want to help you avoid those pitfalls by providing a technical feasibility review during the drafting process, ensuring that Rhode Island’s policies, laws and regulations are both effective and practical.

If you are working on a proposal and want to know how it will actually play out on a school network, we invite you to use our members as a resource. We can provide experience-based testimony for committee hearings, offer feedback on draft language, or provide briefings on the current state of education technology. Please contact our Executive Director to coordinate a consultation.
